Round 3 - Day 18, 19, 20 - Friday and The Weekend

So a roundup of the the end of the week.

 Friday - I worked all day as normal - still from home as I am full of cold still.  All in all, I'm feeling good.

 Saturday - Up and ready to watch the Lions on TV.  Nige popped in for the first half and a catch up, then spent the rest of the morning getting ready for camp next weekend.  Spent the afternoon getting equipment out at the HQ for camp.  Looking good to go - can't wait for camp - it will be me - being normal - not "normal" anymore. Yes - being careful not to over do it !

 Sunday was Fathers Day - so as in tradition - we like to "do something different"

 So we went on a day trip to France.  Up at 5.30am and on the road early to get the 8.30 Ferry from Calais.  Croissants and coffee of the ferry and before you know it, we arrive it Calais.  

 A quick drive to Auchan (Supermarket) as France have it right still - shops close on a Sunday and only s few are open until lunchtime.  We pickup a picnic and head for the beach.

 When we arrived the beach was almost empty, as was the car park.  The car park - free parking - hear that UK Councils - FREE PARKING BY THE BEACH !!!

 So up goes the umbrella - and Dan hides from the sun.  We have a superb picnic, the boys play, Nat worships the sun, Dan hides from it.  Everyone is happy. Just what I wanted for Fathers Day.

 After an afternoon on the beach, we headed back to the ferry port.  Impressive security, asked by the army as we entered the port to open the boot to check nothing dodgy or anyone in there. Asked at passport control to do the same again.  Security is high - but sadly needed.

 Boarded the boat and had a pint and had some dinner - then before long - we are back at Dover.  The traffic home was awful according to the sat nav - however - by the time we got to the bad bits, most of them had gone - so journey was only 10 minutes longer getting home than it was when we left in the morning.

 Unloaded the car and had a glass of wine to unwind and enjoy the remainder of Fathers Day.

 The best bit - is I am not totally knackered. I'm feeling OK, the cold is on it's way out.  Had a great weekend. Looking forward to tomorrow - Scan Day !

So it's been a while

So - I've realised I haven't updated this for a few months - so thought I'd give a quick update. Since the Marsden March, life has carried on as normal.  An enforced change of job due to a restructure see's me working for an IT consultancy now - mostly working out of client sites - currently based in Kent - which means I get to travel in the car and not on the train or tube - happy days !! I've had one lot of tests since March, which were all clear and obviously I'm delighted - My next checkup is actually next week - confident that everything will be OK still but there is always that feeling niggling away that you don't want to be too confident...... After a two week break away, I returned to pre-season training with Sutton and Epsom last night,  I feel a bit broken this morning - but I guess it's only a good thing - get healthier and fitter - just the morning after aches - which I'm sure will subside at some point - probably just before t

Round 3 - Day 1 - Back to The Marsden - The Final Round !

Today is the start of round 3 - or as I like to think of it - my last round of chemotherapy ! Actually had a bit of a lie in this morning and woke up about half 7 - best get ready for the day !  Shower, shave off the bum fluff that has pathetically grown over the past 2 days and admire the hair that has grown back since Friday when it was all shaved off.  Shame it's all about to drop out again ! At least I know it grows back quickly ! So I call up as normal to check my bed is available....... Yes it is - BUT - we are full - so you are on Oak ward this time.  WHAT? No room at the inn ?? I instantly get the hump. Why me? Why did I get the short straw ?  Seriously unimpressed.  Then I was given a reality check, it was Oak ward or they cancelled my chemo......... So we dropped the Boys at our friends house en route - thanks Lindsay for having them and taking them to lunch x. Checkup Time

So this morning I went back to The Marsden for my next checkup.   As in tradition, arrive, have bloods taken and then head off to the canteen for some breakfast before my appointment. Still that weird feeling of being back, but every time, feeling more and more confident it's all still OK.   Looking around, seeing others like me who are there for checkups, others clearly there for the first time. The knowing smiles, the smiles of reassurance, the genuine want to break that terribly British thing - and speak to a total stranger - and give them some form of hope that they are in the best place and hopefully everything will come good.   So I get called in and I wait in the small consulting room.  Standard questions around health, are you well? Any problems ?  Are your hands still cold - no - as it's hot outside - but when it gets cold - I'm gonna need to get those hand warmers again !
